Privacy Policy
This policy describes what data The Fresnel Post currently handles. The site is a static publication with no accounts, advertising or analytics.
The short version
This is a static editorial website. It has no user accounts, comments, newsletter or shopping. We do not currently run advertising, analytics scripts or third-party social widgets, and we do not sell personal data. The main data flows are standard server logs and any email you choose to send us.
Server logs
Like virtually every website, the server that hosts this site records standard technical logs: your IP address, the requested URL, timestamps, the referring page, and your browser's user-agent string. These logs are used only to operate and secure the site — diagnosing errors, preventing abuse and measuring aggregate traffic. Log retention is determined by the hosting provider's standard policy (typically weeks to months). We do not enrich logs with other data or use them to profile readers.
Content delivery and security services
The site may be served through a content delivery network (CDN) or hosting security service such as Cloudflare. Such services act on our behalf to deliver pages and filter malicious traffic; in doing so they necessarily process IP addresses and request metadata under their own privacy terms. We do not control and do not access the raw logs held by such providers beyond what they expose to us.
Cookies and local storage
The site sets no cookies of its own and uses no browser local storage for tracking. Its JavaScript only reads the current date to render the footer year. The site does not currently load advertising or analytics scripts, so it does not set advertising or analytics cookies. Your browser may keep ordinary network or cache data under its own settings.
Third-party content loaded by your browser
The site does not currently embed external video, social widgets or third-party fonts. The typefaces used for page content are served from this site's own domain. Photographs are served from our own domain (downloaded locally, never hotlinked).
Advertising
The Fresnel Post currently displays no advertisements and does not load advertising scripts, set advertising cookies or show an advertising consent banner. If advertising is introduced, this policy will be updated to describe the relevant providers and data use before ads are served, and any consent controls required for the audiences we serve will be available at that time.
This site does not currently serve Google ads or use Google advertising cookies. To manage personalized ads shown by Google on its services and partner sites, visit Google My Ad Center. For details about information Google may receive from websites and apps that use its services, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. Turning off ad personalization does not turn off all ads or prevent other uses such as ad measurement and fraud prevention.
Analytics
The Fresnel Post does not currently run analytics services or affiliate programs. If this ever changes, this policy will be updated before such services are enabled, and this section will describe them specifically.
Email you send us
If you contact us (editorial, privacy, copyright or technical matters), we receive the information you choose to send: typically your name or alias, your email address and your message. We use it only to handle your request — answering questions, processing corrections, or resolving a complaint. Correspondence is retained only as long as needed for these purposes and to keep a record of corrections we have made. Please do not send sensitive personal information by email.
Data sharing
We do not sell or rent personal data. Beyond the hosting, CDN and security services described above, we disclose personal data only where legally required.
Retention
Server logs: per provider defaults. Correspondence: retained while the matter is open, after which it is deleted unless we need to keep a record of a published correction. We do not maintain mailing lists.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the EU/UK GDPR or state laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict use of personal data we hold about you, and to object to processing. Since we hold at most your correspondence, exercising these rights usually means asking us to delete an email thread — write to [email protected] and we will confirm what, if anything, we hold and act on your request.
Children's privacy
The site is a general-interest history publication not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
International transfers
Our hosting, CDN and security providers may process data in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, such transfers rely on the provider's applicable safeguards.
Changes to this policy
If our practices change — for example, if new analytics or advertising services are introduced — this page will be updated with a new effective date, and material changes will be noted at the top of the page.
